Ping On Bun (Chinese: 平安包) is a traditional Hong Kong sweet steamed bun stamped with “Ping On”, which symbolises peace and safety.
Ping On Bun originates from the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, where young men race up “Bun Towers” in a Bun Snatching Competition (Chinese: 搶包山). It is believed that the higher up the tower the bun is placed, the more fortune it can bring to the snatcher’s family.
