Connecting Strokes
Syu Faat (the Cantonese phonetic translation of “書法”, which means calligraphy) —brushed calligraphy, can be intimidating. Seemingly it is a mythical art with many formalities, written in a complicated language by masters well-versed in ancient history.
However, calligraphy is a vibrant and welcoming art underneath this facade. The beauty of brush and ink is universal, it can be appreciated without knowing the language or the long lineage of history. It is still relevant to contemporary life, not only in the art and design industry but also prominent in daily urban life.
With this exhibition, we hope to introduce calligraphy arts from our home — Hong Kong, to appreciate its aesthetics, and to encourage participation without intimidation; anyone can pick up a brush and start writing.
